My current MMO is Warhammer Online. I have been playing the game for over a year now mainly for two reasons:
1. It's Warhammer
2. My Warhammer loving guildmates
One topic that has been talked about alot in vent is the upcoming Warhammer 40k MMO. When it does finally come out, my entire guild will be taking a time machine approximately 40,000 years into the future. However we feel about the fantasy universe of Warhammer pales in comparison to our drooling over 40k fluff. Inevitably, our conversations always gravitate to what we want the game to be like. Up until we here more, I am going to start posting some ideas, some desires, some outright fantasies about WH40k's game mechanics.
CLASS MECHANICS
Basic Summary: 40 levels, broken down into levels 1-10, 11-30, 31-40.
Essentially what I am going for is to allow players to experience almost all facets of being a space marine throughout the leveling process. Also, from a design standpoint, balancing levels 1-30 will be alot easier since there is really only 2 classes up until that point. Also, there would be no need to have to create classes that never existed in the Warhammer univserse. All races and armies have high ranking classes that can be used. Imperial Guard have Commissars, Orks have Mekboyz and Mad Doks, and Chaos could have a player pledge allegiance to one of the major chaos gods upon hitting rank 31.
Here is a more detailed version using space marines:
Space Marine:
1-10: Scout
-perform basic functions (paint targets, gather intelligence, basic sniper support).
-A player starts off as most space marines do, as a scout (or initiate) and plays a support role to the space marines themselves. With high maneuverability and the ability to lend some buffs to the Astartes, scouts would be helpful to even the most advanced squads right out of the gate.
11-30: Space Marine
-basic assault warrior. Has utility across most areas, but not excelling in any one particular area. Can lean toward certain types of weapons (melee/ranged, etc.)
31-40: Space Marine Specialization (Terminator, Apothecary, Librarian, Assault)
-This last tier is for the highest ranking and most powerful space marines in the legion. When a player reaches level 31, these four special classes become open. Once a specialization is chosen, one cannot reverse it (to encourage replayability with alts).
